1st Visayas occupational safety and health summit set October 11-12

Cebu City (8 October) -- All is now set for the two-day 1st Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Summit in the Visayas this Thursday and Friday (October 11 and 12) at the Marco Polo Plaza in Cebu City which will focus on the theme "OSH in Human Resource Development."

OSH Center executive director Dr. Dulce P. Estrella-Gust bared the summit will feature OSH experts in various fields and sectors that will discuss research and information papers in their specialized fields.

The two-day summit will have a total of 55 paper presentations, six learning sessions, a photo exhibit, product exhibits and continuous running of OSH videos and documentary films.

The paper presentations will touch on a wide range of OSH topics and involves different sectors such as occupational safety and health in the following areas: services, cyber services and hotels, manufacturing, mining and energy sectors, maritime sector, biological, chemical and radio-nuclear disaster management, construction, transportation and OSH management systems and legislation, tolls and intervention in risk management.

Learning lessons on the other hand, would involve one-hour discussions on equality and discrimination, setting up of health safety committees, confined space, smoke-free workplaces, ergonomics and violence in the workplace.

The photo exhibit will show commonly-seen workplace situations from an OSH perspective while the product exhibitors will display the latest safety equipment, devices, and services in the market.

The presentors will come from multi-sectoral groups, from both here and abroad.

It is hoped that the summit will further paved the way for a masterplan on OSH in the area in line with the Department of Labor and Employment's Zero Accident Program. (PIA-Cebu/FCR)
